Seamless On-Prem & Cloud Integration: Powered by Ngenea
Every PixStor installation in the cloud is bundled with Ngenea, Pixit Media’s flagship data transport mechanism.
Ngenea bridges the gap between silos of data on premise and in the cloud and allows hybrid pipeline architectures to be constructed rapidly. It differs from traditional sync or caching technologies by allowing the automatic transfer of only the data that is needed between on-premise and the cloud. Having this level of intelligence in the data transport helps you to meet your deadlines by allowing work to start faster, while reducing significant egress and infrastructure costs through the elimination of unnecessary file copies.
With Ngenea able to transport data to both NAS targets and object storage, large-scale work or collaborative requirements, which need data selectively distributed to multiple regions, can leverage the extremely fast wide-area network technology available from Cloud platforms. Completed work can then be collected and sent back to a central location automatically, removing the need to manually copy data from one region to the next. And it does this without the customer requiring fast links into all of the various regions available. This scale can even be extended to multiple cloud providers simultaneously, giving customers options over the most appropriate place to run various parts of their pipeline from within the cloud.
Ngenea integrates directly with popular render management software such as Deadline and OpenCue, allowing applications to drive the flow of data according to need and demand. At launch of a new job or project, the managing application instructs Ngenea to transfer exactly the right data at exactly the right time. And with a simple API and robust multi-region aware transfer queue, adding new integrations is a snap. Completed work can then be collected and sent back to a central location automatically, removing the need to manually copy data from one region to the next. And it does this without the customer requiring fast links into all of the various regions available. Within a cloud-based PixStor environment, Ngenea can be used to transparently migrate data to lower cost object storage, requiring less online volume storage to meet a given capacity requirement. This feature also enables data to be safely and securely parked when projects complete and the PixStor needs to be “spun down”.
